Screen Cloth Test Results So Far
A while back we decided to road test a product concept by calling for triallists via Twitter, this blog and the Sarah Smith Blog.
All in all we sent out cloths out to about 40 people with a very short list of questions.
So far we have had 12 responses.
Most used the cloth to clean Laptops, LCD screens and mobile phones.
10 rated the performance Very Good. 1 Good. 1 OK
4 thought the size a little large. 6 thought just right. the other 2 simply large.
12 said they would purchase at our stated price.
Minimalist I know.
@btudor wondered how the research would affect the product. The simple answer is not at all. I hope to get a few more responses to beef up the numbers but realistically this is small business land. We work intuitively. If we think its a good idea with make a few, test them ourselves, if we think its a flyer we may, and I when I say may it depends on the cost and accessibility of a suitable test panel, run a quick litmus road test and then usually decide in a nanosecond whether to go or not.
Sometimes we do it like that. Sometimes we go "hey fuck it lets just launch the damn thing and see if it sells!" Examples here, here and here
Thing is, it often costs no more to just launch and see if it falls on its face than to fag about looking for justification. So sometimes we get a turkey. Such is life.
BUT the flyers out weigh the dogs about 7-1 so far. Even some of our lesser success slow burners have actually trickled away for long enough to have delivered a net return. Some of these will get culled next year because - remember what you are reading - we positive churn the portfolio. Low margin, low value, low volume get churned out as better margin, better value, better volume is won.
So all I plan to change is the print design. A new year is around the corner and we have some new designs and colours just about ready to roll.
